Roxie Pre/PostScan Tool
by Launch Tech USA
Vehicle health reports are familiar
to motorists today, as many vehicles
have apps that provide them through
a smartphone or on a car’s digital display
. Collision shops also find them a
convenient way to precheck and postcheck
a vehicle they’ve repaired. But
they’re also useful to independent repair
shops, to help avoid the dreaded
“It never did that before you worked
on it” customer complaint.
With the new Roxie quick scan tool,
you can start with a prerepair evaluation
to help sell all needed work,
then finish with an end-of-repair quality
check before delivering the vehicle
back to the customer. Roxie is easy to
use, featuring a voice report on each
system it’s testing and an end-of-test
output of the results, including any
trouble codes set. When a vehicle
comes into the shop, the
technician, who need not be
an experienced diagnostician,
just plugs in the Roxie and
turns on the key to start the
test. As Roxie goes through its
sequence, it makes continuous
voice announcements of
its progress; when it’s done, it
tells the technician to disconnect
it. The tester works on almost
all 2005 and later vehicles
and comes with a USB adapter
for Wi-Fi updating. It stores its
reports and can e-mail them
to up to five e-mailboxes at
once. Roxie is offered in two
models—Wi-Fi (in-shop use)
and cellular (on-road use with
included data plan). (www.

TotalVac Vacuum/Pressure
Leak Detection System
by Redline Detection
With TotalVac, technicians have a
choice when duplicating a vehicle’s
evaporative emissions system selftest
. They can apply pressure in the
evap system at .5 psi and look for a
pressure decay, or they can test in
the same way the vehicle tests itself,
using vacuum. Some OEMs recommend
a vacuum method to determine
leak-down points over the
traditional method of evap system
pressurization.
TotalVac includes a flashback arrestor
and a micro-evap charcoal
canister to ensure fuel vapor is dealt
with safely. Two internal brushless
pumps are used—one for vacuum
and one for pressure—and 12V operation
allows portability, with removable
power cables. A flowmeter
range to absolute zero assures accurate
leak-down testing. Quick-disconnect
fittings and a pressure relief
valve ensure foolproof testing,
while quiet operation enhances the
user''s sonic listening capability.
